Let see the most beautiful Islands around Phuket.
Islands around
Phuket : Phang-Nga, RaCha Island,Similan Island, Phi Phi Island, Surin Island
1. Racha Islands
Everything you Need to Know about Racha Islands
The Racha (or Raya) islands, some 12 km south of Phuket, are
best known as excellent diving and snorkelling daytrip destinations. Racha Yai,
however, is quickly developing into a place to stay on for a while with a
number of bungalow and resort operations springing up in recent years.
Racha Yai reveals itself in splendid fashion, with most
arrivals landing onto a strip of fine white sand tucked deep into the long,
U-shaped main bay, called Ao Tawan Tok or Ao Bungalow. The water here is clear
and perfect for snorkelling, though the bay gets quite busy with visiting boats
in the afternoons. The other large bay, Ao Siam, is a pretty place where
lonely strolls in solitude are possible.
Racha Noi is uninhabited and has no services or
accommodation, but there's some great diving in the area.
2.Phang Nga Bay
A distinctive
feature of Phang Nga Bay
are the sheer limestone karsts that jut vertically out of the emerald-green water. James
Bond Island
and Koh Panyee are just two of the more famous spots in this bay. By far the
best means of enjoying the spectacular scenery, with only brief encounters with
the tourist crowds at James Bond and Koh Panyee, is to take one of the boat trips
from the northern end of Phuket.
Jame's Bond Island |
A leisurely day trip
cruising through the dramatic limestone islands, occasionally stopping to enjoy
quiet beaches, is far more rewarding than the standard bus-boat tour.
This famous landmark, called Koh Ta-pu ('Nail Island'),
first found its way onto the international map through its starring role in the
James Bond movie 'The Man With the Golden Gun'. And this is where most tours
seem to take all of the tourists - all at the same time. The entire area
surrounding this island with its signature rocky pinnacle is indeed
spectacular, but most of the tours bus visitors up the main highway for an hour
on the same well-worn itinerary. An integral part of that tour is lunch at Koh
Panyee, a nearby Muslim fishing village
3. Phi Phi Island
Phi Phi Island
is Thailand's
island-superstar. It's been in the movies. It's the topic of conversation for
travelers all over Thailand.
For some, it's the only reason to touchdown in Phuket. Even with all the hype,
it doesn't disappoint.
Maya Bay |
Phi Phi's beauty is
a large chunk of the allure. The islands, when approached by boat, rise from
the sea like a fortress. Sheer cliffs tower overhead, then give way to
beach-fronted jungle. It's love at first sight.
The second part of
the why-we-love-this-place story is attitude: few places on the planet are this
laid-back. Of the two islands, one is completely free of human inhabitants (Phi
Phi Leh), and the other is without roads (Phi Phi Don). There's no schedule, no
hustle-and-bustle, no reason to be in a hurry.
As an added bonus,
Phi Phi is affordable. Destinations this beautiful are often reserved for those
that can pay dearly. That's not the case here; Phi Phi has something for every
budget. You might be surprised – that perfect beachfront room costs less than
you expect.
4. Similan Island
Just 84 km northwest
of the deckchairs and the bustling crowds of Phuket's Patong Beach
lies a gateway to another world. Koh Similan is one of the best-known island
groups in the Andaman
Sea, largely because of
the wonders that wait beneath the clear blue waters that surround it.
Similan Island |
Generally counted
among the 10 most interesting dive areas in the world, this little archipelago
has also become a favourite destination for yachts and tour boats.
"Similan"
is derived from the Malay sembilan, and means "nine". Each of the Similan Islands has a number as well as a name.
These are, running from north to south: Koh Ba Ngu (No. 9), Similan (No. 8),
Payu (No. 7), Miang (No. 4, No. 5 and, in some opinion, No. 6), Payan (No. 3),
Payang (No. 2), and Hu Yong (No. 1). Hin Pousar, or "Elephant Head
Rock", is alternatively designated No. 6 by some. Koh Bon, lying 17
nautical miles north of Ba Ngu, is part of the Similan National Park
and may be granted honorary status as No. 10.
5. Surin Island.
Mu Koh Surin National Park, found some 60 km off the west coast of
Phang Nga province, and 100 km north of the Similans, is an archipelago of 5
islands: Koh Surin Nuea, Koh Surin Tai, Koh
Ri, Koh Khai, and Koh Klang. The
excellent diving, snorkelling, hiking and game fishing are what most visitors
come for, and those hoping to find a quiet refuge from the tourist traps and
urban centres will be delighted with the islands' lack of
"development". Those seeking convenience, comfort and 5-star service
had best choose another destination - or travel there on a luxury liveaboard
cruise.
Surin Island |
The main island of Surin Nuea has several bays, the largest
being Ao Mae Yai on the southwest, which features calm waters and safe
anchorage. On the southeast side is Ao Luek, which has shallow corals and an
abundance of marine life. Ao Mai Ngam is where the National Park's office is
found, as well as a 2-kilometre walking path. There's good snorkelling and
swimming here off its long beach.
Ao Chak at the north of Surin Nuea is a beautiful bay of pristine coral reefs.
